The modern world rushes forward at breakneck speed, and it seems that even yesterday’s innovations are already outdated today. At the epicenter of these changes is the education system, which, like a ship, is trying to maneuver between two powerful currents — a growing gap between generations and the rapid development of artificial intelligence. These factors don’t just make adjustments, they fundamentally rewrite the rules of the game, forcing us to rethink the very essence of learning.
The recent statement by the head of the Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science Anzor Muzaev about the easy availability of ready-made homework thanks to AI only emphasizes the obvious: the usual forms of knowledge control are losing their relevance. If neural networks are capable of issuing an impeccable answer to any task in a matter of minutes, then the question of the advisability of performing it in its former form becomes rhetorical. This is not just a challenge for teachers and educators, it is a signal for deep transformation.
But AI is not only «ready-made answers.» This is also a tool that is already actively penetrating the student environment. The cancellation of printed abstracts in some universities is a vivid confirmation of this. Students who have mastered the capabilities of neural networks see them as a powerful resource for generating texts. And here we face a new, extremely acute problem: academic honesty. Where is the line between using a tool to make things easier and trivial plagiarism? How to teach students to distinguish independent thinking from generated content?
On the other hand, the generation gap adds its own colors to this complex picture. The young generation that has grown up in the digital era has a completely different perception of information, other channels for its receipt and processing. Their expectations of education are different from those of their predecessors. They crave not only knowledge, but also skills applicable in the real world, the ability to think critically, analyze and adapt.
We are facing a new era in education, where previous methods may not be effective. We have to find a balance between using the most powerful tools that AI offers and educating the younger generation with fundamental skills, critical thinking and, of course, ethical principles. How to make AI not a substitute for the teacher, but his assistant, expanding the possibilities for creativity and deep understanding of the material? How to prepare students for a world where information is available instantly, but the ability to interpret and apply it correctly acquires value?
The times when knowledge was solely the result of cramming and many hours of work on books are leaving. The education of the future is a symbiosis of man and machine, where the main thing is not the fact of memorization itself, but the ability to learn, adapt and create. And now, at this turning point, we must ask ourselves the most difficult questions and start looking for bold answers.
